It’s no secret that the tourism industry is one of the biggest contributors to climate change, so how do we protect the world we love and explore it at the same time?
At Carpe Diem we’ve made it our mission to offset our carbon footprint by making our tours as sustainable as possible and doing our part to combat climate change.
Burn baby burn, calories not carbon emissions!: The majority of our tours involve walking from one place to another. This means we get fresh air and we keep it fresh–all the while exploring a new place and getting exercise in the process. Talk about a win-win!
Eat, pray, love the environment without producing waste: Whether it’s a food tour, pub crawl, or cooking class, we avoid single-use plastic at all costs and combat food waste by ordering just enough to keep you satisfied.
Support! In the name of love: Tourism can take a toll on local communities, but it can also benefit them too. We employ local guides and partner with small businesses to provide an authentic and immersive experience for our customers while putting money into the economy.
Running tours, time after time: Tourism is a seasonal industry but we run our tours year-round, promoting off- peak travel the best we can to combat overcrowding.
On average we each burn about one tonne of CO2 per 4-hour flight. To help minimise our carbon footprint, we’ve partnered with Ecologi to plant one tree per day, reducing 2.3 million tonnes of carbon emissions.
We still have a long way to go before we offset our footprint entirely, but we’re making progress to make travel clean, sustainable and something we can hand down to our children.
